It is central commune of this new city with the biggest amount of inhabitants among the communes of this new town. Current name of the commune was given to Evry in 1965 when it became part of a French new town program. Before there was a little town called Evry-Petit-Bourg with only few thousand inhabitants. Than population has increased a lot.

A lot of international companies (for example, Alsthom, Digital or Hewlett Packard) have had head offices in Evry. With developing of Charles de Gaulle Airport situation has changed. Nowadays there are still a couple of international companies. They are hotel’s company Accor and supermarket’s chain Carrefour. But despite the fact that de uro companies have postal address in Evry, de facto they placed in Courcouronnes.
The commune can be attractive for tourists because of its Cathedral. There aren’t many cathedrals which are built in a modern style and cathedral of Evry is amongst this small amount. Even pope John-Paul the second has visited this cathedral (in fact, this visit is quite famous because of small amount of people who came to see the pope — there were only about five hundred of them.
If you want to get to the commune, wide public transportation system of Paris can offer you three RER stations in Evry (they are all on line D). But if you want to make your transportation as comfortable as possible it would be good for you to book a transfer. It is possible to do from any part of Paris or its suburb, but booking a transfer is especially convenient option when you are to get to the commune from railway station (Lyon, Montparnasse, Austerlitz, Paris Est, Saint-Lazare Paris Nord, etc.) in case you are carrying a lot of heavy luggage.
